Principal Conductor

Tim is a highly experienced orchestral and opera conductor who has been Moving Performance's principal conductor since the inception of our world-class programme Know the Score® in 2011.

Tim conducts opera and concerts throughout Europe and in the US. He is Professor of Conducting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, a regular guest conductor with the London Symphony and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras and conductor and co-creator of the Royal Albert Hall’s My Great Orchestral Adventure concert series.

He has appeared in the UK with the BBC Symphony, Philharmonic and Scottish Symphony Orchestras, the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Britten Sinfonia and the Philharmonia, the City of Birmingham Symphony, English Chamber, Hallé and London Philharmonic Orchestras, and he has a long-standing association with the Manchester Camerata. He has conducted concerts with the Tonkünstler Orchestra in Vienna’s Muzikverein, with Switzerland’s Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana at the MITO Festival in Milan, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on tour in China, and with Italy’s Orchestra Haydn at the Venice Biennale. He has held Music Director positions in the UK and the US and his recordings include discs for Warner Classics, EMI, Harmonia Mundi and Orchid Classics.

In the opera house he has conducted over 80 productions for companies including English National Opera, Irish National Opera, St Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. He has also conducted opera at festivals in Aldeburgh, Bregenz, Los Angeles, St Louis, Vienna and Wexford and as a member of music staff at Flanders Opera, Strasbourg, Glyndebourne and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Off the podium, he has made several hundred commercial arrangements that have been performed by orchestras worldwide, he worked as an orchestrator on the movie Moomins and the Winter Wonderland and recently composed new musical settings of Lynley Dodd’s classic Hairy Maclary children’s stories for the London Symphony and Hallé Orchestras.

In addition to his work at the Guildhall, he teaches regularly at the Royal Academy and Royal Northern College of Music, he devised one of the world’s only conducting courses for under-18s and he is much sought-after as an educator and consultant.
